Attn: Educators
We're considering running a class for teachers, scout & 4H leaders, camp workers, and parents to teach them a series of fun crafts to do with kids. This hands-on class would be designed to provide instruction on how to teach specific projects as you complete one of your own. Contact us if you are interested in learning more about this class.

A Note on Age: Most teens and pre-teens are able to do many of our classes, and many of our instructors have experience working with children and young adults. Occasionally we will open up classes to very young students. Many of our classes are structured with adults in mind, and a twelve year old, although able to physically do the project, may be absolutely bored out of their skull. Instructors will be able to choose whether or not to accept younger students. See our class policies for more.
Only a block from beautiful Lake Superior, we are located right along Ashland's Mural Walk. If you are visiting the Northwoods, be sure to stop in and see us!

Needle Tatting

Click to Sign-Up

People are always asking, "what exactly is needle tatting?" Needle tatting has a similar knot structure to 19th century tatting, but instead of using the traditional shuttle, long needles are used to guide the knots. Although needle tatting is "newer" it still dates back to the early 1900's and is considered a traditional craft. This version may be easier for people dealing with arthritis or carpal tunnel, but both methods may aggravate your condition, so ask at the shop if you are concerned.
Materials: A size #3 Tatting Needle; 1 ball size 5 pearle cotton or size 10 crochet thread
Date & Time: Tuesday & Thursdays, Mar 12th, 17th & 19th, 6-8pm
Cost: $40, + materials. Combine with Shuttle Tatting for $65 + materials, a 20% savings!

Handmade Toys

Click to Sign-Up

Toys are often fast projects, but usually they are a great way to practice new or challenging techniques! The first class focuses on knitting while we work on a small set of play food that can be used as is, or felted for a smoother effect. The second week we come back and use our mad crochet skillz to make a stuffed amigurumi monster! The third week focuses on using woolfelt, be it new or from reclaimed sweaters. We'll learn some basic hand-sewing stitches to make a softie toy from felt. Topics such as materials, tension (gauge), stuffing, accessories, and child safety will be discussed. Students must already know the very basics of knitting & crochet.
